Changes in Issuance of S/MIME Certificates Effective from September 3

(August 20, 2024) DigiCert will remove all non-compliant public Intermediate CAs for S/MIME certificates and replace them with new, industry-compliant ICA certificates.

How will it affect you?

The change of the issuing ICA certificate (Intermediate) will not affect valid and already issued public S/MIME certificates. They will remain trusted until their expiration date.

From September 3, a new, industry-compliant ICA certificate DigiCert Assured G2 SMIME RSA4096 SHA384 2024 CA1 will be deployed for issuing S/MIME certificates. All currently available and non-compliant public S/MIME ICA certificates will be removed. Therefore, the change only affects the issuer of the end certificate.

What do you need to do?

No action is required on your part for the transition to the new, industry-compliant ICA certificate. From September 3, the new ICA certificate will be automatically attached to the issued end public S/MIME certificates (new, renewed, or reissued).
